The U.S. Department of the Treasury has placed five members of the Revolutionary Guards Corps and an airline company based in Turkey on the sanctions list for their involvement in terrorist plots, including designing the assassination of John Bolton and Amir Fakhravar, the head of the National Iranian Congress Senate.
The names of the five members of the Revolutionary Guards Corps include Mohammad Reza Ansari, a commander of the Quds Force, Ruhollah Bazgandi (Bazghandi), former head of the Revolutionary Guards’ Anti-Espionage Office, Reza Saraj, head of foreign intelligence of the Revolutionary Guards, Shahram PourSafi, also known as Mehdi Rezaei, and Hossein Hafez Amini, who holds Turkish citizenship.
Furthermore, the airline company “Ray” has been sanctioned for assisting the covert operations of the Revolutionary Guards, including assassinations and terrorist plots aimed at targeting opponents of the ruling Islamic regime in Iran in Turkey.
Brian Nelson, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, emphasized in a statement the United States’ determination to counter the terrorist plots of the ruling Islamic regime in Iran and the significant threat they pose to individuals perceived as enemies.
Shahram PourSafi, currently on the FBI’s most-wanted list, was accused by U.S. prosecutors last year of conspiring to hire individuals for the assassination of John Bolton, former U.S. National Security Advisor, in exchange for $300,000. According to U.S. prosecutors, PourSafi had also discussed his intention to pay one million dollars for another conspiracy. He openly declared in Club House that he was seeking the address of Amir Fakhravar, the head of the National Iranian Congress Senate.
