British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, says Russian oligarchs and key supporters of Vladimir Putin will be targeted by UK sanctions if Russia invades Ukraine.
The foreign minister on Monday unveiled a new law extending British sanctions in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“Whether you support Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine, or you’re of wider significance to the Kremlin, we will have the power to sanction you,” Truss said, and continued, “the new legislation, which will be in place by 10 February, would be the toughest sanction regime against Russia we have ever had, and would give the UK the power to sanction a broader range of individuals and businesses”.
This is the latest British attempt to dissuade Russian President Vladimir Putin from invading Ukraine. Boris Johnson, meanwhile, has raised concerns about a possible war. On Feb 1st he went to visit Ukraine.
