Kamal Kharazi, who is an appointee of Khamenei as chairman of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, today appointed Abbas Araghchi as secretary of the council.
Kharrazi summoned Araghchi to “rebuild the secretariat and expand its role in explaining the policies of the Islamic regime of Iran and enlightening the world public opinion and further the interests of our country.”
This council is the think tank and advisory body of the Supreme Leader with a strategic approach in the field of foreign relations, which was formed in June 2006, with the decree of Khamenei. The current members of this council are Kamal Kharazi, Saeed Jalili, Ebrahim Sheibani, Ahmad Vahidi, Mehdi Mostafavi and Mohammad Hossein Taremi.
Araghchi, who became an adviser to the foreign minister after the end of Rouhani’s government, replaces Bagher Khorramshad in the Secretariat of the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations, who has been appointed as deputy interior minister.
