Two of the three great statues of Khomeini, Haeri, and Boroujerdi, were set on fire by the Iranian people for two consecutive nights in the city of Qom, the largest center for Shi’a scholarship in the world.

On the night of April 1, 2022, the people of Qom set fire to Khomeini’s statue in Marjiat Square. On the morning of April 2, the regime’s media announced that the people of Qom strongly condemned the move, but once again, on the night of April 3, Boroujerdi’s statue was set on fire in the same square.

The twitter account 1500 images, released a video of Ayatollah Boroujerdi’s statue being set on fire on the night of April 3 in Qom’s Marjiyat Square. “Last night, the roads were closed to use cranes to rebuild a statue of Khomeini that had caught fire in the middle of Qom’s Marjiyat Square,” he twitted.

Authorities in Qom had previously reacted sharply to the burning of Khomeini’s monument.

Qom Municipality also announced that “according to the investigations, due to the loss of most of the structure, it was not possible to repair the statues.” The municipality has announced that after the restoration of the monuments is completed, “they will be completely re-installed in the previous location.”
