Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organization of the Islamic Regime of Iran, who arrived in Moscow yesterday, said he hoped Russia would resume development of the Bushehr nuclear power plant after a 22-month halt.
After meeting with Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the state-owned Russian company ROSATOM, Eslami told the news conference that “initial understandings were reached so that with a clear picture we can carry out our projects and programs in the nuclear field faster.” He said that the two countries’ joint projects include the management and operation of Bushehr’s No. 1 power plant and the development of the second and third phases of the power plant.
The head of the regime’s Atomic Energy Organization said that some agreements had also been reached on Iran’s debt to Russia in order to “somehow prevent the continuation of the 22-month delay that has occurred so far and to compensate for the delay by increasing efficiency.” The Islamic regime of Iran had previously said they owed the Russians 500 million euros for the Bushehr plant.
