The killing of a member of parliament by a Somali Islamist was considered a terrorist act by British police late Friday, police said. A statement from British police said the initial investigation showed that “the motive for the attack was linked to Islamic extremism”.

Conservative MP David Ames was stabbed to death around noon on Friday and died shortly afterwards. The 69-year-old was meeting with a number of locals in a church when he was attacked.  Local police say they beat a 25-year-old Somali man who was immediately arrested at the scene.

David Ames chaired the “British Committee for the Liberation of Iran” and wrote an article on the situation in Iran, always calling for better human rights conditions in the country.  The British Committee for the Liberation of Iran condemned in a statement the attack with a knife on David Ames, a member of the British Parliament and one of the co-chairs of the committee.  According to the statement, a day before his assassination, Ames published an article on the site of Town Hall about the possible role of Ibrahim Raisi in the 67 executions.
