Hours after Russian officials emphasized that they expect the Islamic regime of Iran to sign the “new comprehensive agreement” as soon as possible, what was called the “Iran-Russia strategic agreement in the field of gas transmission” was signed in Tehran. In this contract, Russian gas enters Iran, which has the second largest gas reserves in the world.
According to Safari, the Deputy Minister of Economic Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it seems that Tehran will soon sign a comprehensive agreement with Russia, the exact details of which are not yet clear. Mehdi Safari told Rianovosti that the provisions of the agreement on comprehensive cooperation between the Islamic Republic and Russia are ready and there are no obstacles in the way of signing this document.”
According to ISNA, on Wednesday July 6, in a meeting with “Alex Miller”, the special representative of the Russian President and the head of Gazprom, Mohammad Mokhber stated that the signing of the memorandum of understanding on the export of Russian gas to Iran is very important for improving the security and economy of the region. He emphasized the completion of the north-south corridor and the Rasht-Bandar Abbas railway line as soon as possible to connect the countries in the region to this corridor.
He stated that “Shahid Raisi was always looking for the finalization of the memorandum of understanding on the transfer of natural gas from Russia to Iran”, and continued: With the signing of this memorandum, the Islamic Republic of Iran will become a regional gas hub and a new chapter will be established in the region and in international relations.
Emphasizing that “the signing of the joint strategic memorandum regarding the transfer of natural gas from Russia to Iran is very important for the two countries as well as the region”, he stated: Tehran-Moscow’s determination to improve the level of relations has a serious message to the world. And the possible gas cooperation between the two countries will lead to larger agreements.
“Alex Miller”, the special representative of the Russian president and the head of Gazprom company, also stated in this meeting that the signing of the memorandum of understanding on the export of Russian gas to Iran is a very important and big step which will have verypositive results in the region, he also said: the presidents of the two countries actively pursued the signing of this memorandum and Gazprom of Russia and its subsidiary companies are committed to seriously convert the provisions of this memorandum into a contract so that it can be implemented as soon as possible.
Also, after this meeting, a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation in the field of natural gas transfer from Russia to Iran was signed by Iran’s National Gas Company and Gazprom Sport Company in the presence of the Acting President and Special Representative of the President of Russia and the Chairman of Gazprom Company.
