Coinciding with the International Anniversary of “Legal, Free and Safe Access to Abortion”, a letter was published in cyberspace, according to which it connects pregnancy diagnostic laboratories to the judiciary of the Islamic regime in Iran.
In this letter, the Deputy Justice of Mazandaran Province requested the President of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences to establish contacts between the health networks and laboratories with the judiciary to prevent illegal abortions, and the information of women whose pregnancy test was positive will be provided to the judiciary.
“800 daily and more than 300,000 illegal abortions are performed in Iran every year” said Dr. Hamed Barakati, director general of the Ministry of Health’s Office of Population, Family and School Health. This means that if legal pregnancy tests are prosecuted, 300,000 people will be charged for abortion each year. But in the meantime, no statistics are provided on women who suffer from poisoning or death due to taking expired abortion pills.
