The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution on the human rights situation in Iran, calling for the release of detainees of public protests in the country and expressing grave concern over the high number of death sentences, including those based on forced confessions.<\/p>\n
Proponents of this case have expressed great deal of concern over the high number of death penalties in Iran especially for minors. They called on the Islamic regime of Iran to stop using the death penalty and to reduce the death penalty for minors.<\/p>\n
The Assembly also called on the Islamic regime of Iran to ensure, both in law and in practice, that no one in this country is subjected to torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and to stop the systematic use of arbitrary arrests and detentions and to release those detained for exercising their fundamental rights for freedom.<\/p>\n
Proponents of this case have expresses their serious concern at the restrictions imposed on the right to peaceful assembly and association; And the government’s use of excessive force in response to peaceful protests including protests against water shortages in July 2021 and labor rights between March 2020 and July 2021 were condemned.<\/p>\n
At the end of the resolution, the Assembly called on the Islamic regime of Iran to end all discrimination against women and girls, and called for the release of women human rights defenders detained for exercising their rights.<\/p>\n
The resolution, introduced by Canada, received 78 votes in favor, 31 against and 69 abstentions. Opponents of the resolution include Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, China, Cuba, North Korea, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Pakistan, Russia, Syria and Venezuela.<\/p>\n
Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE also abstained.<\/p>\n
Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine, Spain, the United States and Yemen also endorsed the resolution condemning human rights abuses in Iran.<\/p>\n"},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
