The head of the UN human rights watchdog in Ukraine says his observers have learned more about mass graves in Mariupol; Including the grave where about 200 bodies are buried. The group, led by the international body, is also investigating the disappearance of journalists and officials in Ukraine.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have received a lot of information and evidence about these graves, some of which have been obtained through satellite imagery, and fact-finding shows that the number of victims in Mariupol, which was under heavy bombardment, is much higher,\u201d said Matilda Bogner, Reuters reported.<\/p>\n
Bogner added: \u201cThe extent of civilian casualties and the extent of damage raises serious concerns and suggests strongly there have been violations of international humanitarian law and in particular of indiscriminate attacks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reuters reported, The U.N. rights office, which has some 50 staff in the country, has so far counted 1,081 civilian deaths since Russia invaded on Feb. 24.<\/p>\n
According to Reuters, Bogner’s team is probing alleged human rights violations, such as reports that Russian forces had shot and killed civilians in their cars as they were fleeing; dozens of cases of disappearances of Ukrainian officials and journalists; and the forced movement of civilians into Russian-held territory.<\/p>\n"},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
