According to the definitive announcement of the results of the vote counting in the state elections of Saxony-Anhalt, the right-wing party “Alternative for Germany” (AfD) managed to get about 43.8% of the votes.
The Alternative for Germany (AfD) edged out the ruling Christian Democrats (CDU) in the state election in Saxony-Anhalt, but fell short of an absolute majority.
According to the election officials of this state, the “Alternative for Germany” party with its candidate Ulrich Sigmund won 43.8% of the votes. This party has been assessed as a right-wing movement by the State Constitutional Protection Department. The Christian Democratic Party (CDU) with its candidate Sven Schulze, the state’s prime minister, came in second with 17.2 percent of the vote.
The Social Democratic Party (SPD) entered the state parliament with 9.3%, the Greens with 8.9%, the Left (Die Linke) with 8.6% and the Unity Party of Sarah Wagenknecht (BSW) with 5.3%. On the other hand, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) failed to enter the parliament with 2.6% of the votes.
