Vladimir Putin, on Wednesday, November 6, in a rare comment about the protests in Iran last January, claimed that these protests started from social networks.
According to the Russian news agency Interfax, during a visit to an exhibition in Moscow, Putin said: “What happened when the crisis spread on the streets of Tehran, largely started through social networks; Networks that the Iranian authorities neither managed nor controlled.
Putin said the only thing Iranian officials could do was “cut everything off.”
Vladimir Putin called the complete shutdown of the Internet during these protests an exercise of “sovereignty” and then added: “I am not saying that it was necessary to shut down the networks; There was no such necessity. “Those who were successful used the networks to create conditions for people to come to the streets.”
